The regatta at Alfsee this weekend was great fun, friday night warming up by drinking green stuff (and beer too). I needn’t worry as a was without Moth, but with my Firebug. I sailed the Bug on saturday, being surpised that I didn’t get lapped. The Firebug is 1 meter shorter, with 5 m2 sail area, and 25 kgs heavier then a Moth. But weird things happen when you sail in light winds. I even managed to get to the first mark in 6th (or was it fifth?) [big grin] It was no fun that I got caught metres from the finish line twice though. That didn’t happen a third time, so I even managed not to be last once.
Soeren, our new upcoming talent got the win, sailing very well. Sven got second, struggling to get foiling in light airs, Uwe got third (he’s always fast in light winds).
On sundayI went along on the committee boat to shoot some video. We were amazed to see Sven foiling off the startline on a wind that seemed a meagre force 2, only to laugh when he dumped into a hole and even capsized (what? Sven capsized?). Carnage after, as the rest of the fleet sailed into the hole, and 5-6 boat capsized at the same time, hope I got that on video well…
Interesting to see a Bladerider at the regatta too. It looks very cool, and seems to foil early. Carlo did great for his first regatta, getting to the first mark in 2nd on the last run. He seemed to be improving with every leg.
Juryk at his second Moth regatta made improvements too, sailing at the front of the field on sundays. Only he forgot to put his bungs in, so he won the “Narrenkappe”. Well deserved as he did this at Kuehlungsborn too
But it was haaaard to not have a Moth and be at a regatta. But not all bad, driving in Germany (no speed limits on the highways) for the first time without boat. I now know my car can really do 200 km/hr as advertised
